Julie Foudy is a two-time World Cup winner and two-time Olym-pic gold-medalist with the United States national team.

She is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and she has been a broad-caster and analyst for ESPN since 2007. Foudy shares her thoughts with Jeff Kassouf about the prospects for the U.S. national team and the general outlook for the 2015 Women’s World Cup and beyond.

Ann Odong: How do you feel about the US women’s national team heading into the World Cup?

Julie Foudy: I don’t think I was as worried as a lot of others were going into the Algarve Cup in March. But I must say, watching France beat them in February was an eye-opener on advancements made in other parts of the world.

That French team was phenomenal on that day; it was a different team obviously in that Algarve Cup game, but if they have everyone healthy, I think that they could win the World Cup.

But, the US, there is something to say about – you don’t want to rely on it and become dependent on it – but there is something to be said about that mentality of never giving up and never quitting and finding a way.

Knowing that you have that in your back pocket – again, not having to go to it, but knowing it is there if you go down – is such a huge asset. There are so many players with experience in big games, big moments.
